Newborns and mothers are still dying in awful numbers many a times from preventable causes.
It
is still sad to see that newborns and mothers – including adolescent mothers –
are still dying in inadmissibly large numbers – mostly from avoidable or
treatable causes, such as infectious diseases and complications during
pregnancy or childbirth.
Poorly matched access to reasonable, high-quality
health care and services hinders many countries from improving maternal and
newborn survival and reducing stillbirths. A significant proportion of maternal
and newborn deaths occurs in settings of conflict or dislodgment. However, in current times, the world has seen noteworthy
declines in infant and maternal mortality rates. But women and babies still die
in confounding numbers before, during and after childbirth.
Many
of these deaths can be stopped with better-quality health care. Worldwide, more
preventable deaths – an estimated 8 million – occur from poor-quality health
care than from lack of access to care. Particularly for the most susceptible,
patient care is too often insufficient.
For
reducing the risk of maternal and infant death we need to focus on providing
Basic medications and supplies on time; a hygienic environment and well-equipped
health services; and simple interventions which includes exclusive
breastfeeding and intimate connection between mothers and their newborns. Another
important area is not only to ponder upon, but to act on is - the aptitude of
health workers, including skilled birth attendants, who should be trained
to speedily respond to the danger signs around
the time of delivery – this will save lives.
UNICEF Says: Quality care can save newborns, prevent
stillbirths and protect the lives of
mothers. Two out of every three neonatal deaths could be averted by 2030 if the world invests an additional $0.20 per
person in low- and
middle-income countries – saving the lives of 1.7 million newborns.
It
is missioned almost by every healthcare institution to have the world freed from the
problems causing maternal and child deaths and illness. At Dr. Ziauddin
Hospital one of our vision is that every mother and newborn should survive and
prosper.
