Health system pharmacies, like other health care professionals, practice under a number of assigned standards. Basic perceptions of quality assurance (QA) values should be applied to hospital pharmacy practice.

At Dr. Ziauddin Hospital our Hospital Pharmacy & Allied/ Satellites (clinical specialty wise) services are designed to encounter the prime needs of all our customers. Our Pharmacy services include dispensing of pharmaceuticals in accord with country regulations, proper inventory maintenance & management functions, drug monitoring, patient drug assessment functions, appropriate record-keeping, drug information, IV preparations, education services - training & development and performance improvement functions - having all the broader outlooks aligned to provide the best medication therapy for patients. Our goal is to have an error-free zone of our hospital pharmacy environment, our operation management and all the relevant services.   We focus on a principle strategy, which is to implement dynamic management programmes to ensure measurable operating results through the continuous maintenance and improvement of quality initiatives.

Dr. Ziauddin Hospital takes pride to have designated personnel/ representatives (all the hospital campuses- North, Clifton and Keamari) who are working as Pharmacy Quality Control (QC) leads and are associated and working in close integration with the Hospital Quality Assurance (QA) Department. The Department of Quality Assurance along with the Team of Pharmacists has made an excellent impact on the safety, quality, effectiveness and efficacy of medicines used in our hospitals and also on the swift expansions of clinical and pharmaceutical services. The Department of Quality Assurance plans and conducts scheduled Internal & External Audits based on mandatory international Standards. Regular Training & Development sessions & programs are organized and conducted for improving our systems. The general quality initiatives taken are very useful and applied to various aspects of our pharmacy services – leading to a calculated result-oriented working attitude.

In the coming years, by per se, Dr. Ziauddin Hospital Pharmacy Quality Control Unit and Quality Assurance services would be able to unite, and enhance the responsibilities, looking at advancements;   having new opportunities of functional pharmacy-related domains and actively contributing to research and clinical trials with quality management system and patient safety principles at their best outstanding performance.  In the future we are looking at the expanded role of the Pharmacist Quality Control Leader at our Hospital Pharmacy, having an enhanced and wider recognition of the blend of scientific and technical expertise tied up with strong practical and analytical skills - also having a pharmacy consultation service nationwide.

While focusing on Hospital pharmacy systems, we should not only take up reflective tactics; instead, the call of time is to have a synchronized series of measuring, monitoring, assessing, and improving in the all processes. The entire focused as mentioned, should to be taken up in order to make certain value standards for best practice, ultimately leading to absolute positive results.
