World Pharmacist Day

World Pharmacists Day is celebrated throughout the globe by Pharmacists of various categories to promote their commitment. It is based on planned and organised activities that promote and advocate for the role of the pharmacist in improving health and reducing health risks around every part of the world. Hence, we celebrate World Pharmacist Day on September 25. Pharmacist are integral part of the healthcare system. Role of Pharmacist is paramount in every aspect of healthcare provision.  Recently multi-aspect roles and skills of Pharmacy individuals are highlighted and observed in various disciplines of practices. These roles may be encompassed in the light of the concept of the “Seven-star pharmacist” that was introduced by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2014 as Caregiver, communicator, manager, decision-maker, life-long learner, Guider / Facilitator, and a true leader.

Pharmacists exhibit the pivotal role in ensuring patient care through the best selection of medicine and provision of the necessary information for optimal use. Moreover, pharmacy as a profession is considered as great earning potential and has sustained its rank as one of the most highly trusted professions globally just because of the extent of counselling, care and services are offered by Pharmacists. Medication management is highly important and challenging exercise which is executed by Pharmacy professionals in multiple care setups. Now various clinical avenues are working and expanding the critical Thinking and processes where the pharmacist is doing excellent work as a clinical pharmacist, oncology drug experts, compounding specialist of various parental preparation like TPN, drug information and poison control personnel's, consultants pharmacist and many more in the list. As now practices are transformed into evidence-based practices, it is also needed of time to shift our practices on more evidence-based criteria and accept this paradigm for more functional approaches and maximum benefits of our community at specific and society as holistic need. Today's main concern is Patient safety and that’s why theme of this year is Pharmacy: always trusted for your health. Nothing can be worked without having pharmacist as integral part of your healthcare system.  In Pakistan things are gradually changing and the application of these practices are improving Day by day.  Many community pharmacy setups have been established and practices are monitored under qualified pharmacist and staff which ensures the right medication delivery to right person in right form and right dose. These right concepts will be strengthened with passage of time. Just remember

Drugs and medicines are unique and need to be used in the correct manner to get benefits from them. No one other than pharmacist can assure this. Consult your pharmacist for any medication information and counseling.  Remember to Connect with your pharmacist to disconnect health and medication-related issues.

Talking Cancer Unfiltered

This week I was doing some filming. I got asked about some of the changes I had seen during my own experiences with cancer since 2007. Back then it was still difficult to talk publicly about the subject. But the Internet was just coming into its own. Being bombarded with information booklets is what I remember most. Which was an improvement from previous years where it was hard to find. However, these days you only have to open any social media platform, and cancer posts are everywhere. Surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy sessions are there for everyone to see. People proudly displaying their scars. Also, this week I helped facilitate our regular  prostate cancer  support group in my  local cancer center . Something I have been doing for many years. Here we have members that have been attending for a long time, and also newly diagnosed patients. We kicked off the session by asking one of our regulars to tell us how things were for him. Before we knew it, we had got ...
