Cervical Cancer Awareness

Cervical spine has a total of 7 bones that has a separation from one another by the intervertebral discs, allowing them to move freely and absorbing any kind of shock while doing any form of activities.

cervical stenosis is a disorder which is caused mostly due to aging when there is a compression on the spinal cord and the entire spinal canal narrows down.

The spine discs has a possibility to dry out when it separates and cushion vertebrae which causes shrinking the space between the vertebrae losing the ability of action while absorbing any type of shock, also the bones and ligaments makes the spine less thicken & flexible resulting the spinal canal to narrow down due to these changes.

The degeneration of the bones can be possible due to many reasons that might include any form of injury, age, poor pressure or any kind of diseases i.e., arthritis which can cause disc herniation. Also possibility of disc herniation, blood destruction is also present due to unexpected injury to the neck causing the spinal canal to narrow down.

Banning is not always the answer.

Cigarette smoking remains the leading preventable cause of high morbidity and mortality around the globe, leading to more than 8 million deaths each year. Various measures have been employed all over the world to reduce the burden of smoking, cigarette bans being the major one of them. However, there are still 1.3 billion smokers in the world today and if the trend continues, this number is expected to increase to 1.6 billion by the year 2025. Major stakeholders and activists, when asked regarding a solution to this problem, simply resort to encouraging bans and implementing heavy taxes. If the solution were that simple, wouldn’t we have tackled this menace already? While it may be possible for bans to reduce the uptake of smoking in people who have never tried it before but let us not forget that there are more than1 billion smokers who struggle to quit. A paradigm shift in thinking is required to improve the health of these individuals and simple reactionary knee-jerk responses...

Dr Ziauddin Hospital teaches prevention and control of Hospital acquired Infections through Cleaning, Disinfection & Sterilization

Surgical procedures and invasive medical procedures such as Endoscopy involve contact by a medical device or surgical instrument with a patient’s sterile tissue or mucous membranes. A major risk of all such procedures is the introduction of pathogens that can lead to infection. Failure to properly disinfect or sterilize equipment can increase transmission risk of blood borne infections (e.g., hepatitis B virus) and environmental pathogens (e.g., Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Disinfection and sterilization are essential for ensuring that medical and surgical instruments do not transmit infectious pathogens to patients. Sterilization of all patient-care items is not necessary. Health care facilities identify primarily on the basis of the items' intended use, whether cleaning, disinfection, or sterilization is indicated. Considering this, the Department of Infection Prevention and control, Dr Ziauddin Hospital  organized a session on Prevention and Control of Hospital acquired Infectio...

Talking Cancer Unfiltered

This week I was doing some filming. I got asked about some of the changes I had seen during my own experiences with cancer since 2007. Back then it was still difficult to talk publicly about the subject. But the Internet was just coming into its own. Being bombarded with information booklets is what I remember most. Which was an improvement from previous years where it was hard to find. However, these days you only have to open any social media platform, and cancer posts are everywhere. Surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy sessions are there for everyone to see. People proudly displaying their scars. Also, this week I helped facilitate our regular  prostate cancer  support group in my  local cancer center . Something I have been doing for many years. Here we have members that have been attending for a long time, and also newly diagnosed patients. We kicked off the session by asking one of our regulars to tell us how things were for him. Before we knew it, we had got ...
